IDAT for Scholarship Students Handbook (2025)
This page is for the purpose of Tintern scholarships only.
IMPORTANT!
Tintern Grammar requests that any student who takes the IDAT assessment, does so for the purpose of Tintern scholarships only. Any student who independently registers and takes the fully paid test does so understanding that if they take the test for Tintern Grammar as well, Tintern Grammar will be informed that they have taken the test multiple times. This may affect the student’s ability to be successful in the Tintern Grammar’s scholarships application process.
There will be NO sharing of results. Test results will only be disclosed to Tintern Grammar, Victoria.
1. Structure of the Test
4个考试科目
ENGLISH - Reading & Writing
The English curriculum for IDAT assesses grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, phonics and spelling through multiple-choice questions. The writing is conducted using a keyboard with students needing to demonstrate comprehensive English skills, text type knowledge, sentence creation and variance and appropriate register, as required of the tasks. The reading texts, as appropriate to age and grade level, require students to identify themes, details, characters, literary devices and understanding.
ENGLISH - Speaking & Listening
You may find other sections under the English test on IDAT website , such as speaking and listening (interview). Please be advised these components DO NOT apply to Tintern Grammar scholarship test.
数学测试
Students will complete between 14-24 multiple-choice maths problems. They will have 2-3 questions per type of maths listed on the outline of the Stage test. The test includes algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics, equations, etc., and the test will comprehensively examine students’ mathematical knowledge and problem- solving skills. For questions requiring a calculator, the calculator will appear on the screen for students to use.
全球通识
The Global Knowledge test has three sections with three main outcomes to assess. The sections are Logic (including transformation, patterns, problem-solving and deductive skills), science (Stages 3 – 6 only) and technology (Stages 3 – 6 only). The logic component helps to demonstrate a student’s cognitive strengths. The Social Sciences portion of the test is not only a chance to test students on material that is common for their age and class at the current time, it is also a chance for students to prepare and study content area for the IDAT.
Please refer to our website ‘考前准备’ page for the current list of topics. Students are encouraged to study and commit to memory facts, figures, dates, and definitions that pertain to this topic. Not only will this demonstrate school learning and retention, it will also show that a student is able to study and learn in a school environment for assessment purposes.
性格测试
The character test is a positive experience for students as they self-assess their attitudes, appetites and aptitudes in communication, creative thinking, risk-taking and collaboration. The students complete easy multiple-choice and ranking activities which, when consolidated, make positive statements to help schools get to know their students and their executive skills.
