What Makes IDAT for AI Different?

The IDAT for AI is part of the selection criteria process for choosing the top 20% of students to participate in on an onsite AI course by the prestigious UCL Centre for AI. IDAT for AI goes beyond subject-based testing by combining AI literacy education with a research-informed assessment framework. It forms 60% of the assessment for entry to the onsite programme.

Key features include:

  • An AI-focused assessment developed jointly with UCL research expertise
  • Evaluation of both knowledge foundations and future-oriented skills
  • Emphasis on responsible AI, ethical awareness and real-world application

This approach enables a more holistic and forward-looking understanding of students’ AI learning potential.

IDAT for AI Assessment - Test Format

The IDAT for AI selection assessment is delivered as a computer-based test, with test dates and venues arranged by participating schools. All examinations take place in school computer labs under supervised conditions.

Final results for the selection process are calculated based on:

  • IDAT for AI Selection Assessment (Computer-Based Test): 60%
  • Assignment Performance (Academic Essays on IDAT for AI Moodle): 40%

Based on overall performance, the top 20% of students will be selected to progress to the UK AI Advanced Experience, gaining further exposure to advanced academic and research environments.
