THE SMARTER CHOICE FOR SCHOOL ADMISSION TESTING

ONLINE TESTING PROGRAM THAT IS REVOLUTIONISING SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

A diagnostic test is a form of assessment that occurs before a new educational experience or learning. The purpose of the diagnostic test is to determine the current English and Math levels of the students. Through this diagnosis, it becomes evident what Math or ESL the student has already learnt and committed to memory as compared to their peers and various international curricula. Essentially, the diagnostic part of the test will determine what a student has already learnt up to this point.

The admissions portion of the test is for schools to know how ‘classroom ready’ the students are for a mainstream class that will occur in English. Following on from the diagnostic portion of the test, the student will also be interviewed to talk about attitude towards classroom, learning, self-development, educational environments and confidence. The admissions portion of the test includes subject-based tests, which students are asked to prepare for and will demonstrate their ability to study and commit information to memory that is also a part of global curricula and knowledge in science, geography and history. There is also a logic or reasoning section of the test to analyse student capabilities to understand concepts and think critically. All of these factors show how ready a student is for the classroom.

When combined, a diagnostic and admissions test will serve two purposes. For new students to a school, it will help the school, teachers and administration to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses for the student in order to provide support and enhanced learning opportunities for each individual student. For new applicants to schools, it will help the school to understand if the student meets their selection criteria or what support may be required for this student to achieve that criteria.

The IDAT is quickly becoming recognised by schools around the world as the ‘must have’ diagnostic and admissions test.  IDAT is an official Global Sponsor of the International Baccalaureate conferences, and there are more than 4000 IB schools around the world. The IDAT team have a reputation for educational excellence around the globe.

With results that are reliable and complete the ‘whole-student’ diagnosis, the IDAT is a way to simplify admissions for schools all over the world.

BE OUR PARTNER

REQUIRED AND VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS

Schools, teachers, registrars and principals are very busy people.  They have multiple levels of accountability to students, boards, community and parents.  The levels of paperwork, reporting and benchmarking mean there is never enough time in a term, week or day to get everything complete.  There is always more to do as teaching, innovation and learning adapts and changes to the world around us.

Admissions and new students create an interesting dichotomy.  While it is wonderful to have new students, it is difficult to know if they are right for a school or what they already know.  Testing, interviews, checking previous schools’ transcripts and dealing with different cultures and systems, mean that it is not often until well into a term that a teacher can thoroughly assess what a student has already learnt as well as their strengths and weaknesses.  In the case of selective admissions, it can also result in students’ failure to achieve or a student who is not prepared for classes being in the mainstream classroom without the support required for success.

The IDAT takes these worries away from the school.  In one complete, complex and all-encompassing test and interview, a school gets a picture of the whole-student: academics, character, language skills.  The school can observe the interview without needing to schedule busy schedules across multiple time zones.  It is a complete and total global assessment that sets students up to achieve their own potentials.

RESEARCH AND KNOW THE IDAT

If you have a selective school (your school does not accept every student who applies, but looks for certain characteristics or skills that make students appropriate for learning in your school environment), then using IDAT as an admissions test will save your school time and energy by providing an independent third-party test to assess students suitability for the school. Schools will use results to realise which applicants can  achieve their potential in the school they have applied to.  It is about helping to find the right student for the right school.  Using the IDAT to decide if students have the required skills, knowledge base, abilities and attitude to succeed in the school they have applied to helps schools to simplify the application process.

Other schools are inclusive and accepting of all applicants.  In these schools, the IDAT gives guidance to teachers, counsellors and student services on what kind of support students will require when they begin classes.  The results will demonstrate strengths, weaknesses and attitude/style of learning.  Through the IDAT, the student can arrive on the first day with the correct level of support already in place.  This eliminates wasted time in the classroom where students may not have their needs met.

MY SCHOOL WILL USE IT FOR OVERSEAS OR DISTANT APPLICANTS

If your school would like to use this test for overseas applicants, simply give students, agents and parents the information for IDAT.org and they can book a test for the student and nominate your school as a school to receive the test results upon completion.  Please contact IDAT to join the mailing list and be listed as an IDAT accepting school so your school will receive more information about the test, training for applicants and access to news and educational workshops conducted by IDAT.

It is suggested that you make sure applicants, agents and stakeholders have a valid and well-monitored email address for applicants to use to have results sent to.

Your school is welcome to add the IDAT details to your application, webpage and prospectus as required.

  • GUIDE TO SCORES AND SETTING ENTRY SCORES
  •

  • VIEWING THE RESULTS
  • After a student completes the tests, within two working days, the login and results will be sent to the nominated school and email address. The school can log in and see an onscreen summary (this can be printed for school records) of all results in terms of classroom readiness. Only official school email addresses can be used as the contact email for test results. These will be verified by IDAT independently. The school will also be able to access the interview for internal viewing up to three times. The school can only view the interview three times to help maintain test security. Schools are encouraged to view the interview with a mind to school ethos, care and support and to decide how to help each student in the classroom.
MY SCHOOL WILL HOST THE TEST

One of the significant advantages of the IDAT test is that the test centres are located all over the world. It is more convenient for students to take the exam without regional limitations. Since the IDAT was established, it has signed contracts with many educational organisations around the world to as authorise them as test centres. The whole test is supervised by professionally trained proctors throughout the entire process to ensure the fairness of the test. IDAT is unique in that it can organise testing anywhere in the world on demand. By using a network of IB schools, Universities and the British Council, IDAT can organise a secure proctored test in any city.

All tests must be conducted in a school.  Your school will need to have high-speed secure internet access and a room that is quieter where students can hear accurately through headphones.  Each school will need laptops or desktop computers with headphones and attached microphone and a camera on the computer.  The IDAT will remote access all of this hardware during the test.

If your school intends to host multiple tests, it would be helpful for them to contact us on the IDAT ‘contact us’ link to discuss the IT requirements and security for your school.

The other requirement of schools, is to provide a reliable staff member to act as proctor for the exams.  There is some basic training information for the proctor which is also included in this booklet.
